Jesus said: ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them,
for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.    (St Matthew 19:14)

At St Marylebone we take these words very seriously. Young Church exists to encourage and nurture children, young people and families in their Christian faith. All are welcome and we aim to offer a safe, secure and stimulating environment in which to explore our faith and grow together as Christians. Young Church is blessed with a team of dedicated leaders who bring with them a wide range of different backgrounds and experiences. Parent leaders are DBS checked.

We use the ample crypt facilities and teaching rooms for our worship and activities. Our teaching and activities are based on the Common Worship Lectionary and week by week we use the stories of Jesus Christ to tell children about how God loves them.

What happens on Sunday morning

On arrival for the 11am Choral Eucharist children and young people are greeted and new families are welcomed. We worship with the congregation until the First Lesson when children and young people are invited to go to the crypt for a short time of communal worship based on the theme of the day. Older children (secondary school age) then join the youth group. The younger children remain to hear the Gospel and after a short presentation they engage in a choice of activities.

Group times are informal and a chance for children to share ideas, experiences and to interact and play together. Parents enjoy the opportunity to chat socially. Young Church then joins the congregation for Communion or a Blessing and remains in the church for the final part of the Eucharist. Refreshments are available immediately after the service.

Parents with Babies

Parents with babies are welcome to use the Browning Room at the back of the church where the service is relayed. Baby-changing facilities are available downstairs. Please ask the sidesmen for directions if you are visiting for the first time.

Baptisms

Baptisms are held regularly during the 11am Choral Eucharist.  Please contact the Rector's PA to make an appointment.

Confirmation

We have a Confirmation Service every year.  Classes are held during the 11am Choral Eucharist in the weeks leading up to Confirmation.
