Jesus said: ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. (St Matthew 19:14)

At St Marylebone Parish Church we take these words from the Gospel of Saint Matthew very seriously. Young Church exists to encourage and nurture children, young people and families in their Christian faith. All are welcome and we aim to offer a safe, secure and stimulating environment in which to explore our faith and grow together as Christians. Young Church is blessed with a team of dedicated leaders who bring with them a wide range of different backgrounds and experiences. All parent leaders are DBS checked and trained for their ministry with us.

We use the ample crypt facilities and teaching rooms for our worship and activities. The parish church has a strong relationship with St Marylebone CE School, and we also use their facilities if additional space is required.

Our teaching and activities are put together by the Families Ministry Lead, inspired by the liturgical or Church year.

What happens on Sunday morning?

On arrival for both the 8.30am Holy Communion and the 11am Choral Eucharist services, children and young people are greeted, and new families are welcomed. Attendance is taken on the door through a rota of parent helpers signed up to be sidesmen. If you are new to the parish church, please say hello after the service and ask for a digital Young Church Registration pack.

We worship with the congregation until after the Collect, when children and young people are invited to go to a designated space (either the Browning Room, Crypt Hall, or outdoor/indoor space at St Marylebone CE School) for a time of communal worship based on the theme of the day.

The activities are informal and a chance for children to share ideas, experiences and to interact and play together. After their session, Young Church then joins the congregation for Communion or a Blessing and remains in the church for the final part of the Eucharist. Refreshments are available immediately after the service.

Parents with Babies

Parents with babies are welcome to use the Browning Room at the back of the church where the service is relayed. Please note that during the Changing Lives restoration work to the parish church in 2021-2022, baby-changing facilities are not available.

Baptisms are held regularly during the 11am Choral Eucharist. Please contact the Rector's PA to make an appointment:

Junior Choir

Our Junior Choir welcomes all children of primary and secondary school age. No auditions, just come along and sing! There are opportunities to take part in special annual services in the parish church at Harvest, Christmas, and Easter.

Junior Choir will be meeting for rehearsals at the new time of 9.30am during term-time, from Sunday 5th February. These sessions will take place in the Samworth Hall, straight after 8.30am Holy Communion. Parents/Guardians need to be in attendance, and tea/coffee will be served afterwards.

The Choir is led by the Asst Direct of Music, Will Fairbairn, and Organ Scholar, Ed Carew.  For more information, please contact Will Fairbairn: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
